Testing of Aggregates:
For use in pavement, road aggregates have to be strong, durable and of good shape. A well-graded aggregates adds to the stability of the layer. The following tests are commonly conducted on aggregates to determine their suitability for road construction :
(a) Particle size distribution (gradation)
(b) Presence of deleterious material
(c) Specified gravity and water absorption
(d) Strength
(e) Shape
(f) Stripping
(g) Soundness test
