Technological systems are defined "as the complex of techniques, knowledge, and resources that are employed by human beings in the creation of materials and social artifacts that typically serve certain functions perceived as useful or desirable in relationship to human interests in various social context" (Winston, 2012, 6). Once an artifact is determined to have no social value it is replaced. Technology is only technology as long as it is useful to humankind.
