Task a researcher has been given the task of identifying

Statistic assignment - Please complete the following task.

Task: A researcher has been given the task of identifying factors that influence children's performance on reading tests at the end of primary schooling. The researcher thinks that the more children are exposed to digital media such as games and television the worse they will test as they will spend less time reading and so this will hinder their development in reading. The researcher collects data on a random sample of 11 year olds: a child's score on a reading test and the time spent with digital media per week (in hours).

Your task will be to create a document that includes:

  • relevant descriptive statistics (including visualizations if desired)
  • interpretation of descriptive statistics
  • an explanation of any test to be conducted
  • a report of the results of any test conducted
  • interpretation of your findings
  • discussion of the implications and limitations of the study

The data can be found in this excel spreadsheet called 'reading age' moodle site. Assess the evidence that digital media consumption is negatively associated with children's reading ability. You should include a rationale for the particular technique you use, any descriptive statistics and/or diagrams that are useful to make sense of your work, the result and the interpretation of the result. Could your findings be used to support a policy that discourages the use of digital media in children's home lives.
