Taking what you have come to understand about Chaucer's ironic, sarcastic style of
writing, you now have the opportunity to make your own 21st Century Canterbury Tale!
Think of a 21st Century occupation that deserves to be satirized and complete the
following:
Your poem must contain:
1. 2 stanzas of ten lines each using rhyming couplets (aabbccdd etc.)
2. Instances of vivid imagery throughout (words evoking pictures in the mind)
3. An ironic, sarcastic tone overall
4. A somewhat clear position on the occupation you have chosen (whether or not
you admire or despise it)
5. 1st stanza is direct characterization
6. 2nd stanza is indirect characterization
