Write a three-page essay on the following question.
What were the main events and ideas leading to the Civil War?
Take into consideration elements of the U.S. Constitution, Westward expansion, statehood and the various compromises, states' rights, the industrialization of the North and plantation economy of the South, ideological movements, and most of all how the debate over slavery impacted all of these.
Be sure to have a clear thesis statement in the first paragraph.
