Syphilis in Pregnancy

Syphilis in pregnant women should be treated with penicillin in doses appropriate to the stage of the disease. When pregnant women with syphilis are allergic to penicillin, the US Public Health Service recommends hospitalization, desensitization and treatment with penicillin. Re-treatment in subsequent pregnancies is unnecessary in the absence of clinical or serological evidence of new or persistent infection.
