A LAN has 10 connected workstations. It is a slotted LAN and designed so that each workstation transmits a frame that corresponds in length to the slot time. A workstation's transmission is successful when it is the only station transmitting at a given slot. Otherwise a collision occurs. We define p as the probability that a workstation transmits at any given slot (including any retransmissions).
a. What is the probability that a successful transmission occurs during any particular slot?
b. Suppose we're given that at least one workstation transmits on slot number one. What is the probability that the transmission is successful?
