Summarize an article from a peer-reviewed public health

Question: Public Health in the News

Instructions: Summarize an article from a peer-reviewed public health journal related to one of the weekly topics covered in the course. The journal article should have a publication date no older than 2014. (You may search "public health journals" for a list but there are lots of good ones, including the American Journal of Public Health, the Lancet, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Public Health Nutrition, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, and many, many more!) You may refer to the course outline or textbook for public health topic areas that interest you.

In addition, select a publication from a news outlet (CNN, Washington Post, MSNBC, Huffington Post, New York Times, Detroit Free Press, MPR, BBC etc.) on a public health event in the last year that corresponds to your journal article.

Respond to the following questions:

- Briefly summarize, in your own words, the salient points from both articles and highlight the link between the two.

- What core function of public health (Assessment, Assurance, Policy Development) do these articles address? How?

- What are the implications for public health professionals?

• Papers should be no more than 2 pages (500 words, double spaced). Papers must be uploaded in the PH Writing Assignment folder for grading by midnight February 11, 2018. Print a copy of your paper and bring it with you to class on the due date. Each student will review and evaluate a peer's paper according to a rubric given in class.

This assignment should be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, with 1-inch margins. In the top left corner of the page, include your name (Last, First), the name of the assignment, course # and semester, and the date.
