Discussion: "Lost Cause"
After reading the attached articles, students need to answer the questions below. The initial post should be at least 125 words.
* According to Mitch Landrieu, Mayor of New Orleans, the purpose of the Lost Cause was to "rewrite history to hide the truth, which is that the Confederacy was on the wrong side of humanity." What evidence does he use to support his position? Students should also explain how monuments to Confederate Generals remain an attempt to continue the "lie of omission" that the Lost Cause represents.
* Lastly, students need to develop their own solutions to the monument issue. Students should discuss how and why they would remove these statues OR what they could do to make the history of these statues more inclusive.
