1. News. Watch the following news story and then give your best answers to the related questions.

a. State at least 2 criteria that were used by the news station in selecting this as a newsworthy item. Note which one you feel was the greatest reason in choosing this as a news story.
b. State how newsworthy people are selected to comment on news. Note specifically which reason was most likely in the selection of this rural commentarian.
2. Hysteria over Media Effects. Skim the following article and then give your best answers using current media examples.

a. State which theory is most likely to support the idea of mass media causing significant change in audience behavior, such as this article covers.
b. Does your personal experience lead you to give any credibility to this mechanism of influence? Use an example as possible from your knowledge.
3. Music. Listen to the following song and then give your best answers to the following questions.

a. Define at least two specific elements that define this as a popular song designed for a broad audience.
b. What specific elements of this music, the song itself and the video, make clear that this is for the target audience?
c. What elements of industry support would be needed to make this song popular at the level of Katy Perry or Taylor Swift songs in the US?
