Question: Some years ago, an anaesthetist who gave information which led to the uncovering of incompetence in the performance of children's heart surgery at a major hospital eventually had to leave the country in order to restart his career. More recently another anesthetist was able to report another surgeon (now accused of manslaughter through gross negligence) using accepted National Health Service (NHS) whistleblowing procedures. Hence we can see that things can improve! It really would be scandalous if they did not and malpractice in healthcare could be covered up with ease.
