Problem:
A social justice approach to social policymaking requires that policies be developed with intentional attention to equity, inclusion, and the reduction of systemic barriers that disproportionately affect marginalized populations. In policymaking, I would advocate for the active participation of service users and community stakeholders to ensure that policies reflect lived experiences rather than assumptions. During policy implementation, a social justice lens involves monitoring whether resources, services, and opportunities are distributed fairly across diverse populations, particularly those historically affected by discrimination and exclusion (Marsiglia & Kulis, 2022). In social policy research and evaluation, I believe it is important to collect and analyze data that reveal disparities related to race, ethnicity, gender, disability, and socioeconomic status. Such evidence can guide policy revisions and promote accountability for equitable outcomes (Jansson, 2023). As a future social work professional, I plan to apply a social justice framework by advocating for policies that promote access to quality services, challenging discriminatory practices, and using research evidence to support equitable change. Through anti-racist, diversity-informed, and inclusive practice, social workers can help shape policies that advance human rights, strengthen communities, and improve well-being for all individuals and families.
