The mid-term is all essay questions. Answer 3 of the 4 questions below.In addition to the text, you may consult outside sources of information. But not Wikipedia. You need to cite the sources and don't copy word for word, I will know if you do this!!! There is no limit to your answer, but each answer should be at least three quarters to a page in length for a total of 3 pages.
Keep in mind that you need to explain the information in your answers, not just state it. For example, don't say women were unequal in XXX society without providing examples of how and why they were unequal.
1) Of the ancient civilizations studied so far, Greece is the one most like our own. Discuss the political, social and philosophical ideas that make ancient Greece the cornerstone of our country today. What have we borrowed and/or adopted from Greece? How does our society differ?
2) Discuss the status and social conditions of women in the ancient societies you have studied. What roles did women have in society? Explain why in some societies women had greater equality? In which societies were women most like our own?
3) China and India are two contemporary societies whose civilizations began thousands of years ago and continue to flourish. Discuss the contributions of each to the modern world. What have they contributed to improving our world today?
4) Geographical features often play a role in determining which civilizations are successful, and which fail. Discuss how various ancient civilizations benefited or were harmed by their geography and climate. You can select as many as you like to explain your answer.
