Sociologists talk about how both micro-level factors and macro-level factors impact the family and cause changes in family structure. Micro-level factors are factors at the individual and couple level, such as poor choices in financial management.
Individuals and couples generally have control over many aspects of micro-level factors.
Macro-level factors are those things happening across wider society that impact families, regardless of individual action. For example, if the economy turns sour, and a factory closes, the individual factory worker loses his/her job regardless of how hard they worked in that factory every day.
For this Forum, think about these various influences on family change.
Find and share with the class something you think is currently influencing families. This "something" might be a news item, a piece of legislation, an invention or product, public opinion, etc.
Explain how and why that influence is impacting families on both the micro- and macro-levels.
