Since there is no accommodation and the implant allows for

I was able to work out the answer to a) but I am having trouble with b) I keep coming up with something around 3 diopters and the computer says my mistake may be due to round off errors but I am pretty sure it is not because I am using the answers in my calculator to around 7 places. Any help on how to ACTUALLY DO this problem and not just the answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! A cataract-impaired lens in an eye may be surgically removed and replaced by a manufactured lens. The focal length required for the new lens is determined by the lens-to-retina distance, which is measured by a sonarlike device, and by the requirement that the implant provide for correct distant vision.

(a) If the distance from lens to retina is 22.6 mm, calculate the power of the implanted lens in diopters. 44.2 diopters Correct: Your answer is correct.

(b) Since there is no accommodation and the implant allows for correct distance vision, a corrective lens for close work or reading must be used. Assume a reading distance of 28.0 cm, and calculate the power of the lens in the reading glasses.
