My journey to recovery has been marked by significant milestones that reflect both my struggles and triumphs, many of which are well-known among my family and friends. One of the most impactful moments of my recovery occurred when I obtained my bachelor's degree five years after hitting rock bottom, a period that included jail time and rehab. This accomplishment was a clear manifestation of my sobriety and perseverance. Although my path was fraught with difficulties, including a near-fatal experience with liver failure, it ultimately led me to profound self-reflection. Witnessing my transformation was particularly meaningful for my youngest cousin, who observed how I turned my life around. Inspired by my journey, she recently graduated with her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, attributing her success to the motivation she found in my story.
