Equal Pay: The context

In August 2013 the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) reported that the gender pay gap in basic salaries had increased at senior levels. Male salaries were 25% high than female salaries. This was further exacerbated by bonus payment given to male managers. Male managers’ average bonus payments were £6,442 compared with £3,029 for women. According to the CMI survey the gender pay gap increased at each rung of the management ladder. Male managers’ earnings across all levels were rising faster than women’s male directors’ earnings rose to 5.3% in 2012, compared to just 1.1% for female directors.
