Bicycle wheel A bicycle wheel (a hoop) of mass M and radius a is fitted with a smooth spindle lying along its symmetry axis. The wheel is spun with the spindle horizontal, and the spindle is then made to turn with angular speed Ω about a fixed vertical axis through the centre of the wheel.

Show that n, the axial spin of the wheel, remains constant and find the moment that must be applied to the spindle to produce this motion.
