The school nurse observes multiple red marks on the torso, front and back of a 6 year old child of Asian descent. When questioned, the child states that his mother has been "coining" him and yes that it hurts sometimes. Should the nurse report this as suspected child abuse? Would the decision be different if the child was older or younger? Why or why not?
