Should people be less accountable as automatic process work

Problem: In using heuristics, we are bound to make errors; the nature of the construct is to trade off speed and ease of use with accuracy. In those cases where the heuristic leads us to make unwarranted or unsupported judgments about another person(s), does the fact that said judgment comes from basic social cognitive processes give us an out of sorts? Should people be held less accountable because an automatic process is at work?
