Should medicare coverage be expanded for thesdiseases

Problem

Typically, you will hear about Medicare expansion based on age eligibility. Most recently, Sen. Bernie Sanders, proposed "Medicare for All" which proposed to expand Medicare eligibility to all adults. While this idea is popular, especially with younger voters, it would be a dramatic change to our health care system. We have seen recently with the addition ofALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2010 that expansion via disease is possible.

Both disease states that are immediately eligible for coverage via Medicare are characterized by rapid declines in health and a rapid onset. Basically, you get ill with these diseases and quickly get worse without the intervention of medical care.

A. Are there other diseases that might fit this same criteria?
B. Should Medicare coverage be expanded for these diseases? Why or Why not?
C. Should Medicare be expanded without regard to disease (via Medicare for All or some other means)? Why or Why not?
