Social influence can be studied in a host of everyday situations, such as waiting in lines, signing petitions, or breaking norms of decorum.
Carry out this mini- study of conformity in everyday life and share the key points that you take away from this activity. Remember the importance of respecting people's privacy and maintaining safety when completing this activity!
Instructions
Look for and identify conformity in such places as the lines at a fast food restaurant, bus stops as people wait for a bus, or the library (do people conform to the posted rules, or do they conform to informal norms). Or look at the students who pass by a particular point on campus, and make a note of their appearance and dress. Are they all individuals or do they conform to an implicit dress code?
