Economic capital is, according to the textbook, money and material that can be used to access valued goods and services. My personal experience with this is my military service. My job that I did in the Navy had certain "civilian" perks that followed me once I finished my contract. I had to get a security clearance in order to do my job successfully. The clearance is still good even though I am now out of the military.

I can use this clearance to further my chances of getting into the government sector for careers which in turn would provide a better financial gain for my family. This would be my best example of economic capital in my life.

I believe I can identify more with the biological of deviance. In my opinion this perspective could be based on either genetics or how a person is taught. The book provided 2 examples a criminal and growing up as a farmer. Just because your genetic DNA provided by the parent doesn't mean the offspring are subject to the same deviant behavior. My personal experience is my Mother raised me to be respectful to adults and ensure you call him/her by Mrs./Mr., it doesn't matter who they are.

She instilled manners of all sorts into my sisters and me. I took those same lessons and I'm teaching my children because in my mind there are right set of values I want my children to know and to have. I'm instilling in them what I was taught as a child and growing up. My mother had to learn from her parents, and right on down the line. I also agree with some of the research is a person's environment can contribute and influence a person's behavior. As a parent, I provide my children with the opportunity to provide their reasoning and we talk about a solution.
