Need assistance with examining and analyzing your assumptions and values of certain aspects of the therapeutic process by answering the following:
View of human nature--"Discuss how you view human nature. Do you see humans as pleasure seeking, as generally good natured, or as tabulae rasae?
View of pathology--"Do you view people as pathological and dysfunctional or as products of environmental, social, and cultural influences? How do symptoms or problematic behaviors develop? Do people even have so-called problems or dysfunction? Include a discussion of diversity as it relates to pathology.
Theory of therapeutic process and change--"What is the goal of therapy overall? What does it achieve? What is its purpose? How does change occur?
Therapeutic relationship and roles--"How do you view the relationship between you and your client(s)? What is the role of the client? What is the role of the counselor?
Past, present, or future--"Do you value exploring past events in the client's life? Or is the focus on the present and the future? How are all these related in the context of the therapeutic process?
