Risk of myocardial infarction

A case-control study was conducted to assess the interrelationships between some risk factors for myocardial infarction (that is, heart disease). Information on smoking status was gathered from a total of 791 cases and controls. Current cigarette smoking, defined as smoking in the past three months, was reported by 158 of the 367 cases and 111 of the 424 controls.

Q1. Set up the suitable two-by-two table and compute a measure of association between current smoking and myocardial infarction.

Q2. Compute a measure of the surplus risk of myocardial infarction in cigarette smokers that is attributable to their smoking.

Q3. State any suppositions which you make in performing such computations and give interpretations for both computations.
