After reviewing the Dissertation to Publication (DTP) Workshop site, I learned that the workshop is designed to help doctoral students transform their dissertations into publishable scholarly work and professional presentations. The site provided valuable information about the publication process, conference presentations, manuscript preparation, peer-review expectations, and strategies for sharing research with broader academic and professional audiences. I also learned that the workshop emphasizes networking, scholarly collaboration, and the importance of presenting research findings in ways that can influence both industry practice and future research. Given the relevance of my dissertation topic on Windows 10-to-22H2 deployment risk reduction in healthcare environments, I plan to participate in the workshop after completing my dissertation defense so I can better prepare my work for journal submission and professional conferences.
Publishing research is necessary because it allows scholar-practitioners to contribute knowledge to their academic field while also helping organizations apply evidence-based practices. In my case, publishing research related to healthcare IT governance, operating system deployment, and cybersecurity modernization could help healthcare organizations reduce downtime, improve patient-care continuity, and lower operational risk during large-scale technology migrations. One question I have for my faculty member and classmates is how to effectively condense a large dissertation into a journal-length manuscript while maintaining methodological rigor and scholarly quality. Additionally, I am interested in learning more about conference presentation expectations, acceptance rates, and whether publishing parts of the dissertation online could impact future peer-reviewed publication opportunities.
