The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), a component of the Executive Office of the President of the United States, was established in 1988 by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act. ONDCP's stated goal is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives to eradicate illicit drug use, manufacturing, trafficking, drug-related crime and violence, and drug-related health consequences in the U.S.
1. Review the most recent National Drug Control Strategy. The 2015 strategy can be viewed here.
2. Are there any problems with ONDCP's goals or objectives? Why?
3. How do these goals and objectives match up against the criteria we examined?
4. Are there any forces that you think will ultimately hinder the ONDCP's ability to achieve its stated goals and objectives? Why?
5. Describe how you would measure outcomes for this strategy, if you were in charge of planning.
