Genoways lists a variety of monsters of different times, from the monsters that appeared on ancient maps and places that were uncharted, to the space aliens who threatened America prior to WWII, to Godzilla in the post war world. What are the prominent monsters today, and how to they reflect our current fears and anxieties?
When Genoways says that the president of the United States must respond to the threats "without purveying fear and its conjoined twin, hatred" (par. 6), what attitude does this reflect to real-life monsters that threaten us?
