This is a 2 to 3 page essay, minimum 5 well-written college level paragraphs, in MLA format. Note: the 2 to 3 pages are referring to the body of the paper, and the Works Cited page is a separate page. Should you need a refresher on MLA formatting, I have posted some info on Canvas, and the Polk State library and TLCC have excellent handouts.

You are to provide a biography on the author, and then critique the short story. When critiquing you are to include the setting, main characters relevant to the story, plot, symbolism, irony, and historical context.

A summary of the story is NOT to be included.

Excellent sources can be found in the Polk State library and the Polk State online databases. The Polk State librarians can show you where the references are located. Some references I recommend are Ebsco Literary Reference Center, Megilla Lit., Literature Reference Center (Gale), www.gale.com., Short Story Criticism, Short Stories for Students, and MasterPlots.

Your sources can be located in the Polk State library and Polk State databases. To access the Polk State databases, go to the Library heading, your username name is your Polk State student ID and the password are the last four of your Polk State student ID. Should you not be able to access the Polk State databases with your Polk State student ID, call the Polk State library during regular working hours at 863-297-1000 and ask for the Lakeland campus.

At least three references from the above mentioned sources are required and must be cited on the Works Cited page.

Your textbook is NOT a reference source and should not be listed on the Works Cited page. Points will be deducted.

Your MLA format 2 to 3 pages
