Assignment - Position Paper
Topic: This position paper is about the role of Multinational Corporations in Business, Government and Society. It will address the topics covered primarily in the second half of the semester, including the role of ethics in the global arena, the influence of governmental regulation, the roles of consumer, employee and environmental protection and how good corporate governance is practiced.
There are three potential papers from which you may choose. Please submit to me via email your selection. The topics are:
Paper 1 - Walmart in Mexico
This paper will have a number of sections, which are as follows:
Section 1 - Introduction
Section 2 - A Discussion of the Pros and Cons of Globalization with Regard to Ethics
Section 3 - Review of the Walmart Bribery in Mexico Case
Section 4 - Considering Home vs. Host Country Ethics
Section 5 - Application of the UN Global Compact Principles to the case
Section6 - Discussion of the role of Corporate Governance
Section 7 - Conclusion
Requirements
1. The paper should be 8 pages, double-spaced and stapled, plus the Cover Page and References list. Your paper must be TYPED - please, no handwritten and scanned submissions. Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
2. You must use at least two scholarly sources, which commonly means journal articles. Typically, I would expect sources on Bribery/MNC Global Ethics for Topics 1 and 2, and Worker Rights/Labor Law/Subcontracting for Topic 3. I will be happy to tell you if a source is appropriate (send an email, or show me in class or during office hours) and you may also see the Business Research Librarian, Carol Zsulya.
3. You may use other sources in addition to the required scholarly sources. Please use newspapers, trade publications and the like. Any reference to Wikipedia is unacceptable.
4. Use in-text citations with page numbers. Use APA format for your references.
