Discussion:
Review the handouts entitled "Changes to workers' compensation system leave injured man facing financial struggles" by Barbara Hoberock taken from the Tulsa World newspaper and Problematic Provisions of Title 85a Administrative Workers' Compensation Act.
Recall that Oklahoma changed its workers' compensation laws to move from a court system to an administrative system in 2014. Reflect upon the topic of the newspaper article and what you have studied so far in this course and answer the following questions:
Why do you believe that the Oklahoma legislature change the workers' compensation system from a court-based system to an administrative system?
What problems or issues described in the handout on Problematic Provisions might be relied upon by the attorney for the injured man in the newspaper article to challenge the Commission's rulings in his case?
What is your opinion of the current workers' compensation system and do you believe that changes should be made to it by the legislature?
