Retributive justice imposes a punishment to the criminal, justified on grounds that the crime committed by a criminal created an imbalance in the social order. This imbalance created by the criminal must be addressed by action against the criminal.
On the other hand, restorative justice provides an opportunity to both the victim and the offender to explain the impact of the crime on their lives. The purpose of restorative justice is to provide a fair resolution to both victims and offenders.
In a school, two senior boys bully a junior boy and in the process, the boy sustains serious injuries. The boy's parents are stricken with grief and want to punish the senior boys for their crimes.
Should the parents go for retributive justice or should they resort to restorative justice? Why? Provide examples of situations where you have found the justices of your choice to be more effective in dealing with the offenders.
