Problem: Is this version feet all the requirements for the class discussion "Rethinking Justice: Abolition, Intersectionality, and Lived Experience In this module, I found the idea of abolitionist criminology to be the most challenging. The thought of getting rid of prisons and completely changing how we think about justice made me reconsider some of my previous beliefs about crime and punishment. I have always believed that people who harm others should be held accountable, especially when serious or violent crimes are involved. However, this module made me question whether incarceration is always the best way to achieve justice. Critical criminology encourages us to look beyond individual criminal behavior and examine how power, inequality, and larger social structures influence crime and the criminal justice system (Walby & Gorkoff, 2023). Another idea that changed my perspective was intersectionality. Ma (2023) helped me understand that people do not necessarily experience crime, punishment, or the criminal justice system in the same way. Different aspects of a person's identity and social position can intersect and shape their experiences. This made me think more carefully about how race, gender, social class, and other inequalities may affect how individuals are treated within the criminal justice system. It also made me question whether our system always provides the same level of fairness and justice to everyone. I also found the discussion about treatment and rehabilitation important.
