Blog 1:

The US has made claims that they are trying everything they can to get aid into Gaza as the UN has warned that nearly 2.2 million people are highly food insecure and at risk for famine. The UN explains how Israel is using food as a weapon against the Palestinian people and the Israeli inspections have significantly slowed down the aid entering the territory. The article discusses how the US and Israel have done some backroom advocacy for trying to increase the flow of food and humanitarian aid, but the main issue seems to be how strict and how inefficient the inspections are. I think that more backroom advocacy and discussion needs to be done to not only try to increase the flow, but to change the way these inspections are being carried out. Many trucks with essential items like medicines and shelter are being turned away. There are millions of people that need access to these resources and I think it should start with trying to solve the issue of getting the resources into the region.

Blog 2:

The article talks about the opioid crisis that the US faces. "8.9 million Americans aged 12 and older misused opioids in 2022, including 8.5 million prescription pain reliever abusers and 1 million heroin users." As a consequence of overdose death and addictions remain common within the population, especially among those patients who use pain relief like morphine and codeine both derived from opium plants.

Unfortunately, those people more affected by addictions suffer consequences in the day to day life. As they are dependent they can only "survive" with a certain those of medication, and if they don't have their brain understand that there is something wrong. Consequently, they cannot live their normal lives and often lose everything.

Since 2016, some regulations have been passed through Congress to help fight this problem. One of them, that caught my attention was "SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act includes provisions aimed at promoting research to find new drugs for pain management that will not be addictive. It also expands access to treatment for substance use disorders for Medicaid patients." I believe that many problems can be erased when those other types of medicine, which will help not only the US but also the entire world since this problem doesn't occur only here.
