• Identify two potential variables you are interested in measuring in your research or in your professional field. Define the variable specifically (for example: student achievement is too broad a definition - 4th grade end of year reading tests is an appropriate definition).
• Indicate the range of possible values for each variable.
• Indicate the level of measurement for each variable.
• Find a research article in your area of interest(education)that includes statistical analysis. Indicate the variables in the study and their level of measurement. Include a one to two sentence critique of the authors' explanation of the variables - were the definitions clear, were the possible values indicated, etc. Include a link to the article and a full reference citation.
