Reliable ways to identify the function of behavior

Problem:

respond to mariela using at least 125 words, mention I used the same article and found quite relevant and eye opening, and ask a question related to her post "Functional analysis is considered one of the most reliable ways to identify the function of behavior, but there are several barriers that can limit its use in real practice. Oliver, Pratt, and Normand (2015) reported that common barriers include lack of time, limited trained staff, and administrative restrictions. Because of these constraints, procedures such as brief functional analysis or trial-based functional analysis may better align with ethical guidelines and the practical limitations of many settings. These procedures allow practitioners to evaluate behavior in shorter sessions and often within natural environments, which can reduce risk and disruption while still providing useful information about the function of behavior.

While gathering information for the FBA assignment in this course, I found it helpful to use both indirect and direct assessments to identify possible behavior functions and observe patterns. Indirect assessments, such as caregiver questionnaires, helped provide background information about when behaviors occur. Direct assessments through ABC observations allowed me to see the behavior in context and identify patterns between antecedents and consequences. I also found it important to carefully review the information provided by caregivers to ensure accuracy and better understand their responses. Combining these assessment methods can help guide decision-making when a full functional analysis may not be feasible (Cooper et al., 2020)." Need Assignment Help?
