Problem: This study aims to investigate the complex relationship between illicit drug use and school dropout rates among Liberian youth by exploring the lived experiences of individuals who have engaged in drug use during their non-enrolled high school years. By examining socio-cultural, personal, and community factors influencing these behaviors, the research will provide insights into the consequences of drug use on mental health, social relationships, and future opportunities. This comprehensive understanding will facilitate the development of culturally relevant strategies to reduce drug use and improve educational retention among the younger population in Liberia. The study will be conducted at the National Rehabilitation for Drugs and War-Affected Persons. The theory guiding this study is Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory, as it explains how human interactions are greatly influenced by multiple environmental systems, such as peers, school, parents, and community, which increase adolescents' risk of leaving school and using illicit drugs. The study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach. It will focus on 10 adults, both men and women, aged 18-50 years. Data collection consisted of in-depth one-on-one interviews.
