Problem: Reducing waste and overconsumption in ECE settings is something that children should be actively involved in. Including them in these discussion and practices allows them to feel more connected to and responsible for their own relationship with the environment. How can we do this?
- Provide activity ideas that reuse or recycle material.
- Invite parents along on a field trip to a recycling depot.
- Provide information on how to start home compost.
- Provide information in the newsletter about the importance of reducing consumption and waste.
- Model these practices for children.
While we can do quite a bit in the ECE context, why is it important to have families participate in these activities with their children?
