Question: OUTLINE AND REQUIREMENTS

Readings on topics in Operation and Maintenance management will be assigned be in the first class.

The purpose of the Seminar presentations is threefold:

(a) To give the students practice in organizing material around a specific topic.

(b) To give the rest of the class a summary and clear analysis of the major issues/concepts relating toOperation and Maintenance management.

(c) To develop literature review skills, including selecting appropriate sources of information, familiarization with current research and synthesis of literature to draw out key themes.

The student must carry out a literature review of the relevant research, including the latest developments in the area and demonstrate the practical implications of these. Each student will make a 30 minute (maximum) presentation on a selected topic. This will be followed by 5-10 minutes of Questions from other students.

You will have to rigorously analyze and critique an existing research paper (minimum of three that are related to the topic selected). These research work need significant improvements and your research project in this course will attempt to do so in many aspects.

1. Select a topic: A list of topics will be uploaded on the course website and would include projects related to (but not limited to):

[2] Smart maintenance

[3] Integrated maintenance

[4] centralized vs distributed systems

[5] Systems integration and its challenges

[6] Intelligent systems and its effect on operation.

[7] Cyber physical systems.

[8] Fourth revolution" about autonomy, self-optimization

[9] Maintenance and dependability

[10] optimization of maintenance resource organization

[11] Improving maintenance culture and quality

[12] Reliability based Maintenance and Management of Infrastructure

[13] Various influences on maintenance

[14] Remote system management

Students need to submit a report maximum of 5 pages and the final report of your paper must be submitted during your scheduled presentation . Put all references at the end of paper. Make sure that the final paper has the following sections:

A. Title page: Choose a title that appropriately describes the paper. Include author's names with contact information (Cell phone #/ and Email) or other personal information

B. Abstract: The summary should be able to stand for itself and the reader should understand the scope of the paper from it.

C. Introduction: Discuss why this topic is important. For example on the paperMake sure at the end of the introduction section; you summarize the outline of the whole paper. For example, The rest of this paper is as follows: In Section 1, we will .... , in Section 2...

D. Related Work, Background and Significance: Review the literature published in this topic (at least 3 references which are recent). Also, for this section, give us a bit of background on the organization you will be conducting your research on. What it does, how many people work there, why you think it would be an interesting place to study.

E. Research Method, Design, and Proposed Statistical Analysis (Methods and Procedures): Discuss what attributes you will be focusing on and what framework would be utilized in your research analysis. Include sampling information and data collection methods.

F. Conclusions: Conclude the paper summarizing the major contributions and some possible future work.

G. References and links: Give references to literature reviewed and links to images used from the web.

H. Index of terms: Alphabetically list all terms used in the paper and their definitions.
