Reading the bi-centennial speech on the constitution

Assignment:

Constitution Essay

Using your knowledge from the textbook chapters one through four and-a careful reading of the bi-centennial speech on the Constitution by Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, write an essay that compares similarities and contrasts differences between Marshall's Speech and one other document listed below (choose from James Madison's Federalist Paper #10, Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Speech, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's excerpted State of the Union Speeches from 1941 and 1944, and the Supreme Court Decision in the Brown v. Board of Education case in 1954) on these two points:

a) how does each writer's positions relate to the Constitution (in its original form) as a basis for government, and

b) what does each writer think of democracy as an ideal?

Your answer should be between two and three pages long (up to 750 words, more or less; double-spaced and typed). Please use paragraphs to organize your ideas (topic sentences are a good thing too). Refer to the texts to support your points, use proper citations for paraphrase and quotation. [Please note that I have linked these primary documents into BlackBoard.
