Reading poems that engage pretty directly with political and social issues, from terrorism and war to poverty, mental illness and sexuality. Your poems should, likewise, be engaged with a political or social issue of your own choosing. Your poem, however, should be more oblique or indirect so that a reader might not immediately or necessarily be able to determine the "position" the poet or the poem takes on this issue.
