Read the problem situations 1 below and develop (list) tasks and subtasks for the problem. List at least 5 tasks (can be more) and their associated subtasks for these problems. Label the tasks as Task 1, Task 2, etc., and the subtasks as Task 1.1, Task 1.2, etc., and the subsubtasks, if any, as Task 1.1.1, Task 1.1.2, etc. Make sure that each task/subtask is an “activity” related to the particular problem, does not overlap with other tasks/subtasks, is measurable in terms of progress, can have specific duration and definite outcomes, and is assignable to one or more people for performing it. Do not list tasks with only one subtask, in which case the subtask is not really needed. Indent the subtasks under each task.
Note that for the problem below you need a task or two in the beginning on analyzing the problem, defining the requirements, scoping and planning the project, etc., and similarly, each problem needs a task or two at the end to document and report the project results and deliverables, and transfer the project to the client. You need not know a lot about the problem situations to develop high level tasks and subtasks.
1. Your department is in charge of planning and coordinating next spring’s sales management training program for your company that markets consumer goods. The company has many offices and the training program should be offered at a location desirable for many of the offices located in different parts of the country. This will include (but not limited to) planning the topics for the training program, arranging speakers and their travel, identifying a meeting location and arranging everyone’s stay, informing the various offices of the company about the training program, handling all the details, etc. Your department has been asked to prepare a proposal for this and present it to the manager.
