TASK 1 -

Read the case study "WHS Management System of VTI Group Mining and Minerals" thoroughly as given in Appendix A (attached). You are required to complete the following task based on the given case study:

TASK:

  • Do you think that the WHS Management System is appropriate for the company? Give reason for your answer.
  • Define and explain relevant legislation for WHS.
  • Suggest at least 4 changes you would like to bring in the existing policy and procedure related to WHS.
  • Identify individuals responsible for WHS and define their responsibilities.
  • Identify human resources and financial resources required by WHS.
  • Who would be responsible for approving identified human and financial resources?

As a part of expansion plan, the management has decided to acquire new coal fields in Queensland and Western Australia. You need to work with site workers and supervisors to identify changes in relevant WHS legislation.

TASK:

  • List any changes in the WHS legislations in Western Australia and Queensland as compared to Victoria.
  • Make a report of all amendments you would in the WHS policies and procedures, relevant to respective WHS state legislation.
  • Explain how proposed WHS management system will meet respective legislative requirements. (HINT: change in responsibility of supervisor, workers, etc.).
  • How would you ensure that proposed WHS management system will meet organisational requirements?

TASK 2 -

Read the case study "WHS Management System of VTI Group Mining and Minerals" thoroughly as given in Appendix A. You now have operating coal fields in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. While developing any policy, procedure or any other legal document, you must ensure that legal compliance is maintained and the documents must be in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice and other government and organisational requirements. You are required to complete the following task based on the given case study:

TASK:

  • Develop hazard management procedure for Western Australia and Queensland.
  • Develop a risk management process Western Australia and Queensland.
  • Explain Hierarchy of Control with reference to WHS.
  • How you would ensure that new hazards would not be created while existing hazards are under control?
  • Develop a procedure for selecting and implementing risk controls according to hierarchy of control and state WHS legislative requirements. (HINT: timeline, resources, action)
  • Identify any loop holes in existing risk control methods implemented in Victorian fields. (HINT any new procedure to be developed or changes to existing procedure)
  • List resources you would use to mitigate them in Western Australia and Queensland fields.
  • Identify and seek expert advice for planning and implementing WHS risk management. (HINT: Numerous advices, Refer to Annexure I)

TASK 3 -

Read the case study "WHS Management System of VTI Group Mining and Minerals" thoroughly as given in Appendix A. You are required to complete the following task based on the given case study-.

TASK:

  • Develop a WHS induction and training program for all workers in the work area.
  • Describe the method/s you would like to use for WHS record keeping so that all diseases could be identified as and when required.
  • Describe the method/s you would like to use to measure and evaluate WHS management.
  • List at least 3 improvements you would like to recommend to develop and implement management system to achieve organisational objectives?
  • List steps to ensure compliance with WHS legislative framework to achieve, as a legal requirements.
