This article challenges the reader to abandon preconceived notions about asking the right questions on healthcare and independently come up with what truly concerns us as patients and healthcare providers. Changing our "frame" of thinking can open up the right dialogue and potentially facilitate real change within our healthcare system (Gardener, 2011, p. 149). Political parties tend to push their agenda and policies; as a consequence the actual issue or problem never really gets addressed. One of the ways politicians manipulate the masses is by providing us with the questions that they believe we should be asking. As Gardner pointed out, the majority of people don't realize that we are not asking the right questions. These issues that the political parties bring up are financially driven, and although that is an important part of healthcare reform, is it the most important? According to The State of Play: Healthcare reform in 2017 article "policy and politics can never be separated (Miyamoto, 2017)." So this begs the question, how do we influence change in policy without being influenced by politics. Gardner suggests that we should focus on caring and prevention of disease and not just the disease itself. She also states that we look at people effected by reform as "citizens and not consumers (gardner, 2011, p. 149)."
