Astronomy Discussion - Copernican Revolution: This has two parts. First is due on Monday and the second as the post arrives. Cite all references for all two parts.

1. Read the following question and post your answer to the discussion board. Stimulate discussion! Respond to at least two of your classmate''s posts. Today we know that Copernicus was, in his most basic premise, right in his view of the Universe.

Our Solar System centers on the Sun, rather than on the Earth, and we have extensive evidence to support that claim. Historically though other astronomers and philosophers had strongly supported a geocentric model with a fixed Earth at the center.

Which scientific argument that ancient Greek and some Renaissance astronomers (such as Tycho Brahe) had against adopting the heliocentric model, do you think was most compelling, and why? How is that argument countered today? Please be specific.
