Q. Soil conditions for plant layout?

Soil conditions affect the foundation requirements, drainage, type of substructure used and may limit the size and shape of the facility. This in turn has an impact on the design area and design configuration. A soil investigation is vital to the design of any plant to ensure correct design criteria can be used in the footing, drainage and support calculations.

Each project must acquire a site-specific soil report showing the soil stratification and its characteristics for load bearing in tension and compression, shear resistance, and load-deflection characteristics of axially and laterally loaded piles. The primary purpose of a site survey is to provide data for a geologic assessment of foundation soils and the surrounding areas. A secondary purpose is to identify operational hazards such as sub soil irregularities and man-made objects. A survey report will be developed by doing soil borings at the desired location to develop data usable to the design engineer.
