Production of Ammonia
Ammonia, NH3, can be prepared by adding a strong alkali metal (such as sodium) to an ammonium salt.
NH4Cl + NaOH -> NH3 + H2O + NaCl
Ammonia is also made by the Haber Process. Controlled pressures and temperatures are used in the presence of a catalyst to force a reaction between nitrogen and hydrogen.
N2(g) + 3H2(g) -> 2NH3(g)
