ASCE does not provide the complete methodology needed to account for wind-induced forces on common appurtenances to pressure vessels such as ladders, platforms, handrails, piping, etc. The report entitled ‘Wind Loads on Petrochemical Facilities' provides guidelines and examples for the determination of the total wind-induced forces on pressure vessels, including those from appurtenances. If most detail items (ladders, platforms, piping, etc.) of the vessel are known or can be estimated with reasonable accuracy, the detailed method described in this report shall be used for the vessel design.
