Q. Design Safe Areas for plant?
A Safe Area in this manual is regarded as a space that is not ranked as being a designated hazardous area by the relevant Regional or Country standard directly applicable to the plant design under consideration. The following criteria generally apply:
• A safe distance away from hydrocarbon inventory and sources of ignition.
• A safe distance from potentially explosive dust.
• Located upwind of any processing, flare, vent and drain systems.
• Involving ventilation that excludes unsafe gases or material that might impact negatively on the personnel or items located in the Safe Area.
