q design loading - unloading facilities in plant

Q. Design Loading - Unloading Facilities in plant layout?

Loading and unloading areas should be separated. These facilities should be situated on the edge of the site near road entrances, rail spur or docks. It is usual for loading bays to be close to storage areas to facilitate control and metering. The outdoor loading or unloading of chemicals or powders should be kept away from, and downwind of personnel and the administration building. Frequent movement of trucks handling dangerous or waste materials should be routed away from the main personnel and process areas.

Loading and unloading facilities handling flammable commodities shall be kept a maximum distance from process equipment and from storage compounds.

Road loading bays should be placed parallel to each other, permitting simultaneous loading on each side of an island. Traffic flow should be through the bays to avoid the need for reversing and cross flow.

Weighbridge layout (single or dual) needs consideration to ensure the easy passage of trucks in and out of the plant. Adequate off road parking should be provided.

Jetties need to be designed for ships of different movements and sizes. LPG berths should be sited away from other facilities.
